Description

This book explores the phenomenon of internalized homonegativity among same gender loving Black men and provides practical and accessible tools to help this cohort, as well as clinical providers serving this group, process their feelings related to this phenomenon. Written from personal and clinical experience, Patrick Grant defines internalized homonegativity as negative appraisals a person endorses due to their same gender loving identity. The book provides historical context for the development of homonegativity, describes the developmental experiences that Black, cisgender, same gender loving men often encounter, and connects theory and research with qualitative Black same gender loving male experiences. Chapters explore the contextual correlates of internalized homonegativity (i.e., femmephobia, hegemony, and the heteronormativity of society) and educate readers on how shame and anxiety related to these factors alter mental health and functioning within spheres that encompass and transcend religion, dating, and social navigation. The text concludes by presenting DBT, CBT, and ACT-based therapeutic techniques to assist readers in managing internalized homonegativity. This book is essential reading for sex therapists, educators, students, and clinical professionals who are seeking to increase their cultural humility in working with Black same gender loving men, as well as those in public health occupations looking to create culturally humble programs for this group. It is also a helpful resource for Black same gender loving men interested in curating a values congruent life.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
