About the Author
Richard Copping's passion for the Volkswagen marque began when a Bentley-owning schoolmaster appeared one day in a Beetle! Having learned to drive in one, Richard has owned these cars ever since, although these days he drives a Golf on a regular basis. Richard has written for various magazines and edited the final 13 issues of Britain's oldest Volkswagen title, the much-lamented VW Motoring. He has amassed a large collection of VW promotional literature - which has helped greatly in the compilation of his latest book. Richard is married and is currently Marketing Manager of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.
Reviews
The VW bus is very popular among the collectors, and the caravans based on them combine classicism and value. A good opportunity to re-issue a new title. The book presents the development of the "campers", the original reconstructions on 176 pages and with numerous illustrations - roughly historical works and advertising photos. Historical advertising material and (technical) data complete the presentation. - Austro Classic. More of a guide book than some of author Richard Copping's other VW titles, Volkswagen Camper: 40 Years of Freedom is an invaluable resource for anyone taking their first steps into finding a classic motorhome. Covering all of the major - and some obscure - conversions from the very first Campmobile kits, there's a wealth of brochure material, along with expert analysis that highlights the pros and cons of each model and style. Classic camper aficionados will be fascinated by the rare and unusual vehicles on display. - Classic Car Weekly. VW Bus is a lively yet methodical record of the first 40 years of the Volkswagen leisure vehicles range, talking in Splitties, Bays and Wedges. It covers model specifications and development, artistically illustrated with period photographs. - Practical Classics.
