Description

Voiceworks at Christmas is an inspired collection of pieces for Christmas, ranging from plainsong to jazz carols, gospel songs and folk pieces to well-known carols in sparkling new arrangements, and brand new carols by living composers. With excellent practical rehearsal notes and an accompanying CD, Voiceworks at Christmas meets the needs of all choral groups and overflows with festive cheer.

About the Author
Peter Hunt is the inspiration behind OUP's highly successful Voiceworks series, author of four of its titles, and series editor. He is a highly skilled teacher with extensive experience as a choral animateur, clinician, workshop leader, conductor, and arranger. He regularly conducts children's choirs and organises large-scale singing events with young people. The wealth of eclectic material in the Voiceworks series, and the useful teaching notes have made the series a significant contributor to the recent revival of singing and the development of confident singing leaders in the UK. Peter has delivered workshops and Inset training all over the UK, Ireland, Australia, and the USA, and has a reputation for lively, stimulating and highly informative sessions born of real practical experience in the classroom. Peter is Deputy Head of Berkshire Maestros - the young musicians' trust - the Hub which is delivering music education for young people across the county of Berkshire, UK.

Reviews
In addition there is a well-produced CD of model performances. Flexibility seems to be at the heart of Hunt's concept. The repertoire choice is enticingly varied . . . You can photocopy the pages, mix and match styles and parts or, given the spiral binding, even rip out songs you don't like - although I would be surprised if it came to that when OUP have produced such an excellent collection. * Armin Zanner Music Teacher September 05 *
Although this accolade will be more than a little late by publication date for this year, buy a copy and start browsing for Christmas 2005! * Singing, Winter 04 *
I insisted on reviewing this compilation because I just had to have it for myself (reviewers get to keep the resource)! In Voiceworks at Christmas Peter Hunt provides refreshing singing material for adolescent singers in a classroom setting - I would also recommend it to the choral directors with youth and community choirs as the SATB works are very simple. The book includes a vast range of repertoire . . . There's a complete lesson/rehearsal plan for each song with tips and hints for warming up. The pages are photocopiable which is wonderful for limited resource budgets. Every song is performed brilliantly on the CD by a small group of singers - in tune, together and beautifully (without huge warbly vibratos the size of a minor third). The old and the new are combined to create this Christmas choral collection. A must for KS3 upwards at Crimbo! * Louisa Clethero, Zone Magazine Autumn 2004 *
OUP has a winning formula with its Voiceworks series. Each volume is a valuable resource full of attractive songs in a wide variety of styles designed to capture the imagination of young singers. And, if my recent experience of adjudicating school and community choirs at local festivals is anything to go by, children really enjoy performing Voiceworks items . . . A hallmark of the Voiceworks series is that every book is a complete teaching resource with photocopiable pages, excellent teaching notes full of practical help and ideas for learning and performing each item, as well as much sound technical advice on how to encourage children to sing well and enjoy themselves. * Christopher Field, Music Teacher, July 2007 *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
