Description

In May 1940, Britain was at war with Germany and Neville Chamberlain was Prime Minister, struggling with a poorly prepared defence against Hitler. But waiting in the wings was a group of Tory rebels who would change the course of history. They were doing the unthinkable: trying to topple their leader from power. This is Lynne Olson's fascinating account of how these troublesome young men risked political suicide and vilification as traitors to their class, party and government, and paved the way for Winston Churchill to step in as Britain's saviour.

The first detailed account of the men behind the parliamentary rebellion that brought Churchill to power in 1940

About the Author
Lynne Olson is the author of two books with her husband Stanley Cloud, The Murrow Boys and A Question of Honour. They live in Washington, D.C.

Reviews
'A gripping new political history of the countdown to 1939 ... Olson elegantly brings this political milieu to life' Guardian 'A sharp tribute to the unsung heroes of the rebellion ... Olson deserves credit for focusing on this knife-edge episode in our nation's history and for bringing alive some of the minor characters without whose collective determination Britain's war effort would have been severely retarded' Daily Express 'A fascinating story that Olson tells with great dash ... a spirited, propulsive work of popular history ... Olson vividly recreates the climate of suspicion and hostility that surrounded the troublesome young men, a tiny minority with a seemingly hopeless cause' New York Times 'Vivid and compelling' Washington Post

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
