Description

"If you want to know what the '60s really were about, you'll find out between [these] covers."-The Kansas City Star "[Thirsting for Peace in a Raging Century] restores Edward Sanders to his rightful place at the forefront of the poetry of his time, and reminds us that spending one's days in active pursuit of the betterment of all life on the planet isn't necessarily antithetical to the creation of first-rate writing."-San Francisco Chronicle This American Book Award-winning collection begins with Edward Sanders' famous first "Poem from Jail," written in 1961 during his incarceration for disrupting the christening of a nuclear submarine, and covers the twenty tumultuous years that followed. Now back in print, this vital addition to all collections of contemporary American poetry and culture chronicles Sanders' literary, political, and rock 'n' roll adventures, as well as the joys of life in rural Woodstock, New York. A legend of the American counterculture, Edward Sanders' recent books include Poems for New Orleans and Let's Not Keep Fighting the Trojan War.

1. Published in conjunction with Sanders' Let's Not Keep Fighting the Trojan War: Selected Poems 1986-2008, publicity efforts will focus on career retrospective features, interview and print profiles with this legendary figure, and, of course, critical review coverage across the country. Additional marketing will include consumer advertising in a number of poetry journals, conference display, and academic direct mail marketing. 2. Finished books will be available for review copy mailings in May and available at Book Expo America. 3. Edward Sanders gives prominent lectures and performances across the country (recently at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). As his schedule evolves, more tour cities and dates will be added including a publication party/ final reunion gig for The Fugs, being planned at the Bowery Poetry Club, and a Twin Cities benefit event celebrating Coffee House Press's 25th anniversary. 4. Sanders' poetry CD, Thirsting for Peace, was released in 2005 by Olufsen Records, featuring the extended, multi-part "Thirsting for Peace in a Raging Century," and is available through Amazon.com. 5. News and updates from Edward Sanders can be found on The Woodstock Journal's web site: www.woodstockjournal.com and at: www.thefugs.com

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
