About the Author
Hagen Fleischer is a historian and has lived in Greece since 1977 and as a dual citizen since 1985. Gradually and partly in addition to journalism, he has been teaching at the universities of Rethymnon (Crete) and Athens since 1979, where he founded contemporary history. He focused on taboo subjects that were still valid in Greece at the time (World War II, resistance and collaboration, civil war, Holocaust). At the same time, he was and is particularly interested in German-Greek relations in the 20th century and the political and cultural-political actors. He represented Greece in numerous conferences and commissions, e.g. Vienna, 1987/88: International Commission of Historians on Kurt Waldheim's past; State Department, 1998: Washington Conference on "Holocaust-Era Assets"; Hamburg, inter alia: 2001-2004: "Wehrmacht exhibition". Until his retirement in 2011 (and until today) he taught at the National Kapodistrias University in Athens. In international research and in daily political statements, he is committed to the still incomplete reconciliation of his home countries.
