Description

By 1865 the Great Western Railway had spread across Cornwall changing the face of the countryside with earthworks and viaducts. Now a new line is under construction bringing with it an army of navvies who are feared by the locals, ill-used by the railway company, and a source of amusement for bored aristocratic ladies. Two men and two women of vastly differing backgrounds are drawn together by corruption, intrigue and tragedy. In the wake of disaster each must make choices and the stakes are high.

About the Author
Jane Jackson is an award-winning historical author who writes historical romances set in Cornwall during the period between the Napoleonic Wars and the Edwardian era. Containing elements of adventure and intrigue, they explore Cornish life at every level of society and are emotionally-gripping stories of courage, ambition, tragedy, and the redeeming power of love. A professional writer for over thirty years, and twice shortlisted for the Romantic Novel of the Year Award, Jane Jackson has had twenty-seven books published ( sales of her 14 Harlequin titles topped ten million in 23 countries and 19 languages) She has also taught the Craft of Novel Writing at all levels from Writers' Summer Schools and Ad Ed to the MA in Professional Writing at University College Falmouth. Happily married, she has lived most of her life in Cornwall, background and inspiration for her historical romances.

Reviews
5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it 22 Sep 2012 By David Heppenstall This is the third time I have read The Iron Road and enjoyed it just as much this time. I like the multi-faceted story, the different characters weaving in and out and how they develop and reach their goals. It is reminiscent of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice with it's multiple characters and different motivations. The story brings to life how the navvies lived and the contrast between them and the better off. I particularly like the way the author explores the deep personal feelings and interactions of the characters. As a footnote, I cannot understand the negative review by K Conklin which objects to just about everything good in the book, and which would equally apply to the delightful books of Jane Austen.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
