Description

This volume in the Greenwood Guides to Biomes of the World series covers the vast forest that cover much of North America and similar regions. The volume covers the three major types of temperate forest biomes: boreal forests (e.g. the evergreen forests of the Pacific Northwest), Temperate Broadleaf Deciduous Forest, and Mediterranean Woodland and Scrub, examining all aspects that define these biomes: * Vegetation * Geographical Distribution * Soil * Challenges posed by the environment * Adaptation of the plants and animals to the environment * Conservation efforts, maps, photos, diagrams, drawings, and tables accompany the text, as do sidebars that highlight habitats, species, and ecological relationships The volume includes a bibliography of accessible resources for further research.

Provides an overview of the climate, flora, and fauna of the temperate forest biomes

Reviews
...Kuennecke (Radford U.) takes a very close look at temperate forest biomes, temperate broadleaf deciduous forests, Mediterranean woodlands and stands of scrub in a temperate environment. Focusing on a range of temperate forest biomes, he gives a general overview at a global scale and analyzes specific biomes in detail, so much so that chapters can stand on their own. He keeps undergraduates in mind, using a minimum of scientific jargon but respecting that which is needed, and organizes chapters geographically to cover virtually every temperate biome. * SciTech Book News *
This book is part of a series of volumes on world biomes, which makes a convenient, off-the-shelf set of guides to most of global diversity and contemporary environmental issues. This book and the full series are thus recommended for any libraries supporting the biological, earth, and environmental sciences. * ARBAonline *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
