Description

This textbook assists students, teachers, and scholars in understanding and articulating major themes and issues arising from Spirit Christology, an interdisciplinary and international area of study. In the last half century, Spirit Christology has developed into a critical and productive theological framework for reading Scripture, mining the implications of Christ's person and work, thinking about God, and laying out the shape of the Spirit's works in the life of the church and in the world. Highlighting voices from many countries and theological traditions, the book chapters are structured to show how various authors engaging Spirit Christology have contributed compelling answers to critical questions raised in biblical studies, church history, systematic theology, and practical theology. Topics include the role of the Spirit of God in the gospels' descriptions of Jesus, the place of the anointing of Jesus in the history of the church, the relationship between Logos (two-natures) and Spirit Christologies in contemporary theology, and the productivity of Spirit Christology as a lens for reflecting on and fostering spiritual practices/disciplines and ethical engagement in the world. This textbook offers pedagogical features: - Study questions for discussion - Glossary of terms

An Introduction to key theological themes and issues in the field of Spirit Christology.

Reviews
As the title indicates, this is an introduction to a way of thinking about Christ that is making huge inroads into theology today, and for good reason. As one of an emerging cadre of voices on Spirit Christology, Sanchez offers a wise and pastoral approach to an understanding of who Jesus is that starts from human experience and takes seriously the challenges facing Christianity today. -- Myk Habets, Laidlaw College, New Zealand
"If Jesus is God, does he really need the Spirit?" inquiring theological minds want to know. They need go no further than this masterful study by Professor Leo Sanchez on the renewed theological and experiential interest in the Spirit's relationship to the Son, and vice versa. Highly recommended. -- Joel C Elowsky, Concordia Seminary, USA
I am convinced that a way forward from the neglect of the Spirit in Christian discourse is an attentiveness to the field of Spirit Christology. Sanchez has offered us a valuable introductory volume that straightaway delves into many of the insights and contributions of this important conversation. -- Daniel Castelo, Seattle Pacific University, USA
Leopoldo Sanchez tackles the vexing problem of integrating both the Logos and the Spirit in the task of Christology with both clarity and depth. Broadly ecumenical in scope, this volume surveys a truly impressive range of issues surrounding Spirit Christology from the fields of biblical, historical, systematic, and mission studies. -- Frank D. Macchia, Vanguard University of Southern California, USA
Performers that also compose have been rare in classical music and the field of classical theological studies. Leopoldo Sanchez is indeed a performer in the classics, both in music and theology, but also a great composer of a Spirit Christology's potpourri that distinctively combines the best of the past in the language and tones of the present. Through key characters of Western Christian traditions, Sanchez's articulation of Spirit Christology is focused, clear, insightful, formative, and inspiring. His work is best appreciated if one is willing to journey through the patristic, magisterial, and contemporary normative theologians knowing that they are voices we can use to help tune-up our ears to recognize the Spirit's song of Life, where we live and do ministry today. Performers are pragmatists; hence, the reader will find in Sanchez's work a practical location for knowledge that matters in a post-Christian, postcolonial, and post-secular world. -- Oscar Garcia-Johnson, Fuller Seminary, USA
"Spirit Christology" can be a confusing term and concept, not only for students but even for scholars. Leo Sanchez is a leading voice in Spirit Christology as a complement to Logos Christology. His latest volume helpfully explores the biblical, historical, and theological issues related to the important but often neglected role of the Spirit in Jesus' life and ministry-and its significance for us who have received the same Spirit. Highly recommended. -- Michael J. Gorman, St. Mary's Seminary & University, USA
Dr. Sanchez provides a 21st century comprehensive and critical overview of Spirit-christology. This volume establishes the significance and sustainability of Spirit-christology as its own field by demonstrating its biblical foundations, historical development, Trinitarian vitality and contextual application. The author truly delivers a readable and richly rewarding Spirit-christology textbook. -- Sammy Alfaro, Grand Canyon Theological Seminary & College of Theology, USA

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
