In the shadow of an imminent change in leadership, the London Road staff prepare for a grand finale. As DS Mercer navigates the closing chapters of his career, a chilling revelation comes to light: a trail of unsolved murders tracing back to 1998, all hauntingly intertwined along the M4 corridor. A sinister suspicion takes root-could the perpetrator be one of their own, a guardian of the law turned serial killer?
Seeking an ally he can trust implicitly; DS Mercer asks Gus Freeman to undertake a covert investigation. The spectre of the "blue wall" looms large as the pair uncover a disturbing truth; several crimes meticulously concealed and perpetrated by a serving officer.

Yet, while the web of deception threatens, life in Gus's home village of Urchfont proceeds, and the promise of an impending Christmas celebration beckons. As the New Year dawns, dark shadows hint at looming dangers that could shatter the fragile peace.

This perfect blend of detective mystery and everyday life will delight fans of Sally Rigby, Faith Martin, Joy Ellis, Simon McCleave, and Pauline Rowson. The final case in this gripping series.

PRAISE FOR TED TAYLER:
"Ted Tayler brilliantly weaves the details of the mysterious murder dropping breadcrumbs for readers to follow. We follow Freeman and his team as they interview witnesses, suspects, and friends of the victim. Along with his liberal use of British colloquialisms, he enriches the flavour of the tale. His prose brings the investigation to life. I think Gus Freeman will be as appealing as The Phoenix. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a solid mystery." Elizabeth.
"Tayler's ability to give multiple dimensions to his characters gives his books a genuine slant. He works the relationships between his characters smoothly into his plots." Patrick.
"Gus Freeman is a multi-dimensional character who is not only called on to help solve a crime, but also deal with his personal issues. It is always a joy to read this author's stories. He is not just a writer but a great storyteller." Amy Shannon.
"Another great story in this series to follow and try to figure out what will happen next." Amazon Customer.
