Description

Callum and his friends find Iona poaching on Callum's farm. She is not supposed to be there, but Callum feels bad about chasing her away. He finds her shivering in the woods, refusing to leave. There is a secret hidden in the forest above the dark waters of the loch, and Iona is its guardian. When she decides to trust Callum with it, they form an indestructible bond that will change Callum's world forever... And then I saw it. I saw the secret hidden in our valley. No one else knew about it. Just me, and Iona. Firstly published ten years ago to critical acclaim, Sky Hawk has been captivating readers ever since.

Two lives to save, one secret to keep.

Reviews
Opens your eyes, touches your heart, and is so engaging it almost turns the pages for you.
This beautifully written, captivating book should be on everyone's bookcase. Breathtaking. Poignant. Unforgettable.
An edge-of-your-seat wildlife adventure that tells a very human story of friendship, discovery and an incredible journey. I loved it!
Rich in atmosphere and full of heart, Sky Hawk is an intense and touching story of how protecting a rare bird forges a deep and special friendship between two children . . . Sky Hawk is an enthralling tale about a promise between two friends, Callum and Iona, that will change lives forever, and the power of friendship, loyalty, and hope. A book to treasure. * The Guardian *
I loved Sky Hawk-it's a tremendously assured debut novel and it reminded me very much of the books Michael Morpurgo writes. I can see teachers wanting to share this one with their classes because its themes are simultaneously diverse and universal, but I also think it's a book for all ages to savour at home. Highly recommended. * www.thebookbag.co.uk *
From the first page I was drawn into this very real novel which has at its heart an ecological message. The characters are truly believable and the language of this novel is poetic and beautiful. For anyone with an interest in wildlife and conservation issues, I would strongly suggest they buy this debut novel by emerging writer Gill Lewis. I hope it won't be her last book! * First News, The Weekly Newspaper for Kids *
Powerful, evocative writing about landscape and the natural world, and delicately drawn characters existing within the complex nexus of human relationships in a small village are sensitively combined in this absorbing, very moving novel. * BookTrust *
Gill Lewis' beautifully understated writing gently sweeps her reader along and the story, itself, quietly and lyrically conveys her moving and timely message of the interconnectedness of people with nature and people with people - whether within one village or across the earth. This is a beautiful book which will have resonance for many readers beyond its target readership. * www.booksforkeeps.co.uk *

One of the best online booksellers out there.

I always check Booksplease before looking at other online sellers because in many instances, particularly with older titles, their books are a lot cheaper. There is added postage, but when you add this to the overall cost you are still spending less than you would otherwise pay elsewhere.
