Description

Sigmund Freud's name is known throughout the world. He opened up the world of the unconscious, so people can understand themselves so much better than before. His unique ideas are discussed in academic circles. His psychoanalytic techniques influenced mental health, counselling, psychotherapy and psychiatry. His words form part of everyday language. Lying on a couch and having dreams interpreted by an analyst is an iconic picture of modern life and popular culture.

Sigmund Freud: A Reference Guide to Her Life and Work captures his eventful life, his works, and his legacy. The volume features a chronology, an introduction, a comprehensive bibliography, and the dictionary section lists entries on Freud, his family, friends (and foes), colleagues, and the evolution of psychoanalysis.

About the Author

Alistair Ross trains students as psychodynamic therapists, therefore practicing what he preaches. His long-standing interest in Freud and psychoanalysis finds expression in his ever-growing book collection, research, and publications. It has culminated in him becoming the first Associate Professor in Psychotherapy at the University of Oxford.

Reviews

Passionate about Freud, Ross offers an encyclopedic dictionary about the man, his work, and followers up to 1950. An introductory essay and an eccentric, free-associative selection of entries follow a good chronology of Freud's life.... Most entries include a lively pastiche of facts, opinions, and brief overviews of related works. The book can appeal to lay readers or beginning students stimulated by the intellectual wealth of psychoanalysis.... [R]eadable and intellectually enjoyable. Recommended. Upper-division undergraduates. General readers.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
