About the Author
Michael Smith is author of the best-selling biography of Tom Crean, An Unsung Hero. His other books include I Am Just Going Outside, a biography of Captain Oates (2002) and Polar Crusader about Sir James Wordie (2004). He has also written books for children, including Tom Crean -The Ice Man. He contributes to TV and radio and lectures on Polar history. Michael was a business and political journalist with The Guardian and The Observer.
