Description

Sir Richard Morison (c.1513-1556) is best known as Henry VIII's most prolific propagandist. Yet he was also an accomplished scholar, politician, theologian and diplomat who was linked to the leading political and religious figures of his day. Despite his prominence, Morison has never received a full historical treatment. Based on extensive archival research, Renaissance and Reform in Tudor England provides a well-rounded picture of Morison that contributes significantly to the broader questions of intellectual, cultural, religious, and political history. Tracey Sowerby contextualizes Morison within each of his careers: he is considered as a propagandist, politician, reformer, diplomat and Marian exile. Morison emerges as a more influential and original figure than previously thought.
Reviews
A valuable, and superbly researched, study of a familiar but underrated figure of the early Tudor religio-political scene... all students of early Tudor religion, politics and culture will welcome this important new contribution to their field. * Peter Marshall, English Historical Review *
A book that is learned, original, and convincing... Sowerby has produced a book of very considerable interest and importance and one that has far more substance than its relative brevity might suggest. Her case for Morison's importance as scholar and polemicist is fresh and persuasive. This book is not one that can be ignored by scholars interested in Tudor intellectual, theological, literary, legal, or political history. * C. D. C. Armstrong, H-Albion, H-Net Reviews *
A work of scrupulous scholarship in archival and printed primary sources... an illuminating portrait of Morison that gives due credit to his wide-ranging scholarly interests, his intellectual prowess and erudition, and his genuine commitment to the vita activa in the cause of the emerging Tudor commonwealth... an admirable first book, which makes an important and valuable contribution to the field * James S Hart, History: Reviews of New Books *
A thoroughly researched and multifaceted evaluation of Sir Richard Morisons life... this monograph offers a significant reappraisal of Morisons career and is a valuable contribution to our study of early modern England * Melissa Franklin Harkrider, Journal of British History *
an invaluable scholarly work that redefines not only Morison, but also his era. As such it deserves a place alongside other leading accounts of early Tudor literature and politics. * Mark Rankin, Sixteenth Century Journal *
Sowerby's study of Morison is a welcome and useful addition and complement to the work of Ethan Shagan, Alec Ryrie, Rory McEntegart and the post-revision interpretation of the English Reformation. * Ronald H. Fritze, Journal of Ecclesiastical History *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
