Description

This book offers comprehensive, practical guidance on RF propagation channel characterization at mmWave and sub-terahertz frequencies, with an overview of both measurement systems and current and future channel models. It introduces the key concepts required for performing accurate mmWave channel measurements, including channel sounder architectures, calibration methods, channel sounder performance metrics and their relationship to propagation channel characteristics. With a comprehensive introduction to mmWave channel models, the book allows readers to carefully review and select the most appropriate channel model for their application. The book provides fundamental system theory accessible in a step by step way with clear examples throughout. With inter- and multidisciplinary perspectives, the reader will observe the tight interaction between measurements and modeling for these frequency bands and how different disciplines interact. This is an excellent reference for researchers, including graduate students, working on mmWave and sub-THz wireless communications, and for engineers developing communication systems.

A comprehensive source for creating accurate channel-propagation measurements and channel models at millimeter-wave and sub-terahertz bands.

About the Author
Theodore S. Rappaport founded NYU WIRELESS, a multidisciplinary research center, and the wireless research centers at the University of Texas Austin and Virginia Tech. Professor Rappaport is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Wireless Hall of Fame, and a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. Kate A. Remley is the Leader of the Metrology for Wireless Systems Project at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Here Dr Remley specialises in the development of calibrated measurements for microwave and millimeter-wave wireless systems and standardized over-the-air test methods for the wireless industry. Camillo Gentile is leading the Radio Access and Propagation Metrology Group and the NextG Channel Measurement and Modeling Project at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Here Dr. Gentile prototypes novel radio-frequency channel measurement and modeling techniques for the millimeter-wave and sub-Terahertz bands. Andreas F. Molisch is the Solomon Golomb- Andrew and Erna Viterbi Chair Professor at the University of Southern California. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, AAAS, IEEE, IET, Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and recipient of numerous awards. Alenka Zajic is Ken Byres Professor in the School of ECE at the Georgia Tech. She is the recipient of many awards including NSF CAREER Award, multiple Best Paper Awards, and Neal Shepherd Memorial Best Propagation Paper Award. Her research interests span applied electromagnetics, wireless communications, and computer systems.
