Description

Pregnancy loss--the death of a conceptus, fetus, or neonate before the 21st day of life--affects a substantial number of women and their partners, and can lead to severe and long-lasting psychological consequences. Perinatal grief, however, is often invalidated, avoided, or dismissed in Western society. Therapy can offer bereaved parents an empathic and affect-regulating relationship in which to mourn. In Psychotherapy for Pregnancy Loss: Applying Relationship Science to Clinical Practice, Rayna D. Markin applies cutting-edge research on the therapist-client relationship to individual and couples therapy for pregnancy loss and related forms of reproductive trauma, in such a way that is easy for clinicians to utilize in various settings. Through in-depth clinical illustrations and practical relational guidance, Markin demonstrates how the therapy relationship can help clients affected by pregnancy loss to mourn their losses, process and grow from trauma and loss, and restore healthy self-esteem. Guided largely by attachment theory and research on evidence-based relationships and responsiveness, this book is a guide on what exactly clinicians should do and how they should be in the therapy relationship to help clients not only grieve and process the traumatic experience of pregnancy loss but also achieve greater attachment security. Psychotherapy for Pregnancy Loss will serve as a valuable go-to guide on how clinicians can establish and utilize the kind of therapeutic relationship that is needed to help clients process and grow from the trauma of pregnancy loss.

Reviews
Markin has brought to life the complexities that grieving parents struggle with. The book shines when, through case examples, she describes the feelings of loss and trauma parents endure. Markin invites us into the therapy room, openly and potently demonstrating interactions with patients, with the importance of the relationship between therapist and client stressed throughout. Focusing on theory and research, and applying it to clinical work, makes this book a valuable addition to the literature on pregnancy loss." * Janet Jaffe, PhD, Center for Reproductive Psychology *
Seamlessly blending the mind of a scientist with the heart of a clinician, Dr. Rayna Markin powerfully applies relational principles to the neglected population of those who have lost pregnancies. She expertly demonstrates how to cultivate, repair, and leverage specific components of the therapeutic relationship while personalizing treatment to the patient in front of her. This book represents next-generation clinical practice and training!" * John C. Norcross, PhD, ABPP, Distinguished Professor & Chair of Psychology at the University of Scranton, and co-editor of Psychotherapy Relationships That Work and Personalizing Psychotherapy *
In an outstanding integration of theory, research and practice, Dr. Markin provides therapists with the knowledge and tools needed to help individuals and couples navigate the trauma of pregnancy loss. The importance of empathy, the impact of attachment styles, and awareness of countertransference in forming a therapeutic alliance, as well as repairing the inevitable ruptures, are valuable new contributions to this work." * Sharon N. Covington, MSW, LCSW-C, BCD, Director, Psychological Support Services, Shady Grove Fertility *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
