Description

This title was first published in 2003. Presenting information is a vital part of the job of both the medical director and other senior executives in the pharmaceutical industry, and yet the majority receive no training for this. Presentations have to be made internally to colleagues, clinical staff, marketing and product managers and medical sales representatives; and externally to professional medical specialists and NHS staff, the media and the general public. Anyone who manages or communicates adverse news needs to do so quickly and effectively, and be prepared to face difficult questions under media scrutiny. In this book, John Lidstone, an author acknowledged by the industry as an expert in marketing and presentation skills, provides readers with the tools and skills to make their presentations and media dealings a success. The book is divided into two parts. Part One, Preparing and Delivering Formal Presentations, provides extensive practical guidance on the techniques of effective presenting: establishing objectives and preparing the presentation, delivering the opening, core and conclusion, using visual aids and dealing with questions. It also includes a chapter on the skills required for video conferencing. The second part, Handling the Media, contains invaluable insight and instruction for a pharmaceutical executive facing any element of the media. It draws on the author's extraordinary experience and provides examples and advice with direct relevance to the pharmaceutical industry throughout, making this the only specialist book available on the subject.

About the Author
John Lidstone is an internationally recognised leader in management and marketing consultancy. He retired as Deputy Chairman of Marketing Improvements Group Plc in 1993, after spending nearly thirty years helping to build it into one of the foremost firms in marketing consultancy, research and training operating throughout the world, following eleven years with the Shell Group and teaching at Repton School. In addition, John was elected a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in 1981 for his services to management training films. John is also author of Gower's Marketing Planning for the Pharmaceutical Industry.

Reviews
'The symptoms caused by a phone call from a journalist or the prospect of making an important presentation are common - a sinking in the stomach, clammy hands and an increased heart rate. Now the prescription should be this informative guide to making presentations and dealing with the media. John Lidstone is generous with examples from his own long career and provides a truly thorough guide to the successful use of visual aids. His checklists provide helpful summaries which should be of use to both the novice and those who have been "flying by the seat of their pants" with presentations and media interviews for far too long.' Linda Rose, Director of Media Services, Shire Health Group, London, UK 'Once again John has opened up his lifetime of experience with the Pharmaceutical Industry to share with others. This time the chosen subject is "presentations" and "handling the media" - both topics are highly relevant to pharmaceutical industry executives. Everyone needs to continuously learn, challenge and improve their presentation skills and handling the media will prove to be an invaluable resource for marketeers, medics and public relations managers. Success is never guaranteed, but with John's excellent reputation and the choice of topics in his new publication, I am sure the book will be widely acclaimed!' Nigel Brooksby, Managing Director, Sanofi-Synthelabo UK and Ireland 'In today's challenging , noisy Healthcare environment, the demands upon Pharmaceutical Executives for clear, targeted and convincing communication have never been greater. Whether you are developing your next formulary winning presentation for hospital or PCT, or preparing your organisation for the challenge of future interaction with the Media, John Lidstone's new book provides a detailed guide towards successful execution of your case. Sprinkled with contemporary, practical and salient examples of how (and how not) to prepare and present your case, this work book is essential reading for

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
