Peace, War and Whitehall is the memoir of Field Marshal the Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank, who served as both Chief of the General Staff and Chief of the Defence Staff in the final years of the 20th century. It details his unique military career with the British Army, from his involvement in the small wars that punctuated Britain's withdrawal from Empire through to his leadership at the highest level in Britain's interventions in in the Balkans and Sierra Leone.
About the Author
Field Marshal the Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank, GCB, GCVO, OBE, DL, was commissioned in 1959 and served with the Welsh Guards and the Special Air Service. He was Commander of NATO's Northern Army Group, 1992-93, Chief of the General Staff, 1994-97 and Chief of the Defence Staff, 1997-2001. He became a member of the House of Lords in 2001.
