About the Author
After finding her way to Atlanta, Georgia, by way of Hawaii, USVI, Miami, and South Carolina, Robyn Lucas developed a successful career in communications and marketing. Her background came in handy when her teenagers created an award-winning mental health app. But living the fabulous life is tough, so Robyn grounds herself with piles of laundry, managing busy teenpreneurs, and writing women's fiction because it's cheaper than therapy. When Robyn is not writing (with a spreadsheet filled with plot bunnies for countless novels), she enjoys traveling, spending time with her teens, marathoning (TV shows, not running), reading, and snuggling with her dog, Trooper. Reviews
"This is a gripping story with characters that come to life on the page, but it is a difficult, possibly triggering read. The heartbreak of an abusive marriage should be fertile ground for book groups." -Library Journal (starred review) "Lucas paints an alarmingly accurate picture of a family held hostage. While at times difficult to read, Lina's journey is ultimately one of hope." -Booklist "An intense novel about family, abuse (both mentally and physically) and one woman's fight to end it and save herself and her kids...a strong story about one woman that's able to fight her way out and hopefully make it all the way out." -Red Carpet Crash "Robyn Lucas has written a compelling exploration of a woman trying to shake off the prison of her disintegrating marriage and return to herself. It is also a wildly romantic tale of soul mates and the promise of a new day. Engrossing and satisfying." -Barbara O'Neal, Washington Post bestselling author of When We Believed in Mermaids "Paper Doll Lina by Robyn Lucas is a wonderful women's fiction novel where I rooted for Lina the entire time to find the strength to rise up and escape a life-threatening, abusive relationship. Lucas pours on the heartfelt emotion to describe the cringeworthy, manipulative way that Lina's husband has made her into a 'paper doll' of herself. Lucas skillfully guides her readers through the minefield of Lina's journey so that, independent of her terrible husband, Lina finds her own path to happiness. There are outside influences, but as in the best women's fiction, Lucas makes sure that Lina finds her own happiness first. Once she does, readers will cheer. When Lina gets her icing on the cake and finds that special someone who cherishes her for who she is, readers will want to cry. Paper Doll Lina is quite an emotional ride, and just like in the classic Pinocchio, the painful journey is well worth the rocky road traveled. Readers happily witness a paper doll transform for her real-life happy ending. I can't wait for Lucas's next story!" -Piper Huguley, author of Sweet Tea "Robyn Lucas captures the tension and terror of life under the shadow of an abusive marriage in this powerful and accomplished debut." -Fiona Valpy, bestselling author of The Dressmaker's Gift
