Description

Leila is young, beautiful and a hustler. She robs hapless men picked up in the trendy nightclubs of Bologna. Easy money, until she ends up with a document at the centre of a carefully crafted plot of political blackmail. In an atmosphere of intense underworld paranoia she is pursued simultaneously by two secret service operatives, a goon hired by the blackmailer and the police. They are after the document and a suitcase full of dollars meant to be the pay-off. Chased through the streets of Bologna she comes across Francesco, a bus driver and gambling addict who spends most of his time running from the Bear, a terrifying debt collector for the mob. Suitcases and blackmail notes change hands at a frenetic pace against a background of murder and other violence beyond the fringe. A savagely funny crime adventure with an Italian twist.

About the Author
Giampiero Rigosi, born in 1962, lives and works in Bologna. He is a much acclaimed literary critic, short story and song writer as well as a producer of radio programmes on cinema noir and crime literature. Night Bus is his first crime novel. Ann Goldstein works for The New Yorker but her passion is translating from the Italian. She has written prize-winning translations of books by Roberto Calasso, Aldo Buzzi and Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Reviews
"A perfect blend of a fast-paced chase film with biting satire; pot-shots taken at politicians, the secret service, the police, the idle and less idle rich, and various other urban low-lifers. Let war begin." La Repubblica "A brilliant thriller, ironic and hard hitting, full of astonishing plot twists. Inspired by the hardcore writing of Elmore Leonard and Donald E. Westlake but Rigosi takes things a step further with a gift for drawing truly relevant and unforgettable characters." Il Manifesto"

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
