Reviews
'One of the most kinetic, original young fiction writers we've read in a long time' Esquire 'Poirier is a wonderful creator of situations ... His great creation here is Kendra ... Poirier makes you feel trapped in his characters' own predicaments. This is America as it really is ... Superb' Todd McEwen, Guardian 'In its charming, almost soapy way, it brought the same warm glow that I got from Iain Banks's family saga The Crow Road. Kendra and Merv are likeable without being comic, and the world seen through their eyes is weird without ever becoming grotesque ... Poirier's achievement is to lay out a fresh take on the grit and inertia of American small-town life' Independent 'Comic writing dripping in sweat, lust and thinly veiled violent energy' Glasgow Herald
