Description

The Leith area possesses a highly distinct cultural and social identity, with a contentious history to its relationship with Edinburgh.

Tom Wright opens the door to Leith's past by exploring its rich heritage through a comprehensive collection of black and white photographs taken over time. Accompanied by quirky and insightful text which brings the era to life.

From the bustling community atmosphere of the Foot of Leith Walk, to the rich naval history of the Shore, it is easy to understand why the people of Leith are so proud of their town and its distinct character.

The perfect gift for someone who lives or has lived in the area.

About the Author

Proprietor of the Old Scotland in Pictures framing shop just off Leith Walk in Edinburgh for over 30 years, Tom Wright is now happily retired. The shop specialised in Victorian and Edwardian photographs of Scotland, and utilising the vast collection of negatives and postcards accumulated during this period, this book is a complete change of direction from his previous books about football.

On leaving school at 15, Tom's first job was in Leith, where he quickly acquired a great affinity with the Port and its unique atmosphere. An affinity that continues to this very day.

He is married to wife Liz, has two daughters and four grandchildren. Tom is also author of The Golden Years: Hibernian in the Days of the Famous Five, Hibernian: From Joe Baker to Turnbull's Tornadoes and co-author of Crops: The Alex Cropley Story.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
