Description

Jeff Goulding's Red Odyssey, an epic chronicle of Liverpool FC's history, continues with more tales of drama and joy, heroes and villains, victors and vanquished.

In 2020, Klopp's Reds captured the club's first league title in 30 years, completing a remarkable treble of domestic, European and world honours. Jurgen's Last Stand: Red Odyssey IV is the story of what came next, reliving how Jurgen came agonisingly close to a clean sweep of all available honours in 2022 before carrying off a domestic cup double.

Goulding treats us to a supporter's-eye view of the drama in Paris, which is emotively contrasted with a glorious homecoming that enveloped the team and the city of Liverpool in a blanket of solidarity and celebration.

Finally, as a tired Klopp battles to build Liverpool 2.0, supporters are rocked by his decision to step down at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, before their passionate response propels him and the club through yet another historic season. The Red Odyssey series is the ultimate people's history of one of football's most iconic clubs.

Reviews

"In Klopp's Last Stand, Jeff Goulding magnificently captures the emotional highs and lows, spectacular successes and glorious failures of the final few chapters of the Klopp era. But this is not just about players, managers, matches and score lines. Goulding skilfully weaves a compelling narrative, with the city, its people and Goulding himself, at the heart of this story. Exhilarating, informative and as romantic as the club itself Klopp's Last Stand is essential reading for anyone interested in the story of a city, its people and the man who made them happy."

-- Jesse Sarwar * Daily Liverpool Podcast *

"This book is tremendous. I cried reading about the 2024 Carabao Cup final and I cried again reading about Klopp's farewell. I can't remember the last time I cried reading a book. I can't think of a higher compliment. I couldn't go to either game, I watched both on TV. So, something in Jeff's description of his experience, of being there, and his recall, touched something in me. Thanks to him for writing it."

-- Mark Kerr * Sweet Silver Song Podcast *

"There's something to be said about experiencing events through another's lens when you've already lived it through your own, and Jeff does a marvellous job at taking you along the journey with humour, emotion and honesty. There is so much packed into 286 pages and it leaves you wanting more. This club inspires so many great stories and is interwoven in so many of our lives, and Klopp's Last Stand encapsulates just that."

-- Joanna Durkan * This is Anfield *

"This is a magnificent book. Jeff has managed to fuse together his own personalized experience of the endgame of the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool with all the footballing insight that has become his calling card as an author. He's like the Milk Tray man, but the gift is words rather than chocolate."

-- Steven Scragg * These Football Times *

"And I can take this opportunity to emphasise the importance of Jeff's work, so much so, that we will reference his work alongside that of the likes of Stephen F Kelly. Jeff's influence on aspiring writers cannot be underestimated, with this book adding to that repertoire."

-- Kieran Smith * LFC Historical Group and co-author of Untouchables: Anfield's Band of Brothers *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
