This sourcebook provides clarifications on the linkages between the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the fisheries sector. It serves as a guide fpr implementing CITES within national legal frameworks for fisheries. CITES regulates international trade in certain aquatic species, including those which are, and can be, commercially exploited and are managed by the fisheries sector. Fisheries legal frameworks have to recognize and enable the various CITES requirements, including the making of ""non-detriment findings"" and ensuring that there is a designated authority to take decisions with regard to listed commercially exploited and managed aquatic species.
