Description

Storytelling is the easiest way to become a more effective teacher. Tying a concept to a memorable story is the best method of ensuring that your students will never forget the importance and relevance of the concept. But this book isn't just for teachers - becoming a better storyteller can help you become a more effective staff member or administrator. This book covers every aspect of storytelling for educators, including how to choose the stories you tell, various methods and modalities for delivering those stories, and the tricks to becoming a master storyteller. Learn to change the stories you tell about yourself, change the stories you tell about your students, and change the stories your students tell about themselves. You can even change the stories that you and others tell about your school. Becoming a master storyteller can literally help you be happier and more fulfilled in your job as an educator.

About the Author

Reviews
LOVED the book! It is a serious game changer! Our stories are our lives and this gives you the tools to shape and sculpt your life and the lives of those around you. -- Eric Jensen, Author of Teaching with the Brain in Mind
This is a well-researched, nuts-and-bolts guide for using the power of storytelling to reach students. Teachers who want to use storytelling in the classroom can get started right away, thanks to Tveten's many real-world examples and tried-and-true techniques. -- Molly McCloy, Writing Instructor at Pima Community College, and four-time Moth StorySLAM Winner
Mike Tveten guides and inspires readers by bridging storytelling to a concept being taught and applying it as a powerfully engaging tool for students to learn critical thinking skills, build trust with their audience, and bring positive change to their professional and personal lives. This book teaches educators to change the narrative of their teaching, learning, leadership, and vision, by combining neuroscience and the heart. -- Dolores Duran-Cerda, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (and former faculty member), Pima Community College
Anyone who believes they aren't a story-teller will be scripting their own stories after reading a few chapters of Mike Tveten's Imperative Narratives: Storytellling Secrets for Teachers, Staff, and Administrators. A powerful message of growth mindset comes through--that we can all learn to be better story-tellers. For people who like to learn methods systematically, the book provides many practical tips, aligned with stories, of course, about why particular approaches work better than others. -- Kelly A. Hogan, Teaching Professor and Associate Dean of Instructional Innovation, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Co-author of Campbell Biology's Concepts and Connections
Stories matter. Every college professor should read this book to help think carefully about what stories they tell: not only to their students but to their colleagues, to prospective students, and to themselves. -- Ike Shibley, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Penn State University; Consultant for Magna Publications, Faculty Development Consultant, and co-author of forthcoming book "The Power of Blended Learning in the Sciences"
Mike Tveten has got it right! Stories engage people emotionally in the idea, concept, or content the speaker is communicating! In short, stories literally "light up" and activate more regions of the brain than when content is delivered as an informational lecture. It is a part of the secret sauce that moves us toward becoming a captivating educator that touches the lives of our students. -- David R. Katz, Executive Director of Organizational Development, Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, NY

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
