Description

Great British Marine Animals is an eye-opening celebration of Britain's sea creatures, from the magnificent basking shark to the tiny but dazzlingly colourful jewel anemone. The book is both an identification guide and an introduction to the animals' fabulous forms and intriguing habits. It will appeal to everyone who loves wildlife and beautiful photography, or wants to discover more about our seas. In addition to clear portraits that aid identification, full-page photos and photographic sequences show animals in action in their natural habitat. There are many unusual photographs, including those of crabs in territorial dispute, sea hare mating chains, starfish chasing brittle stars and even a blenny having a 'bad hair day'. The expanded 2nd edition has details of 30 extra species, 90 new photographs and a foreword by WWF and the Marine Conservation Society. With 272 pages and 420 colour photographs in total, there are details of the following types of marine animal: Sponges, cnidarians, sea anemones, corals, hydroids, jellyfish, worms, crustaceans, crabs, lobsters, prawns, shrimps, barnacles, molluscs, chitons, sea snails, sea slugs, bivalves, cuttlefish, octopus, squid, echinoderms, starfish, brittle stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, feather stars, sea squirts, fish including sharks, rays, eels, cod, pipefish, sea scorpions, gurnards, clingfish, mullet, bass, weevers, wrasse, blennies, gobies and flatfish.

About the Author
Paul Naylor has been snorkelling around the coast of Britain for 30 years. Whether in the muddy shallows of a beach lagoon in Norfolk or in the deep and clear water around the Orkneys, he has always been entranced by the animals that live there. For the last 20 years, Paul has concentrated on photographing these animals in their natural habitat wherever possible, showing them getting on with their lives despite his attention. He talks to schools, colleges, conservation groups and diving clubs on the wonders of our marine fauna; and writes regularly about marine life for diving magazines and other publications. He has a doctorate in marine biology and is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society. This is his fourth book.

Reviews
"...Naylor's photographs disclose a world that is intensely colourful not only in the visual sense, but also because of the behaviour of its varied inhabitants." The Independent "...photos...are all excellent...essential reading for anyone who wants a bit more than a name for a sea creature." BBC Wildlife "...highly recommended to all with an interest in our native marine life." British Wildlife "A magical book crammed with colourful photography of marine life round the UK shore." The Teacher "If I were to recommend a single species guide to UK divers, this would be the one." DIVE magazine

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
