Description

Global Environmental Politics has provided an accurate, up-to-date, and unbiased understanding of the world's most pressing environmental issues for thirty years. The eighth edition continues this practice by covering critical new developments in global environmental politics and policymaking.

Updated case studies on key issues such as on climate change, endangered species, ozone depletion, desertification, whaling, hazardous wastes, toxic chemicals, and biodiversity detail the ongoing development of major environmental treaty regimes, and new case studies on mercury and marine biodiversity showcase the challenges of creating new treaties during a period of significant global change. There is also new material on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, trade and environment, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on environmental diplomacy. Updated information about global environmental trends, paradigms, and actors completes this comprehensive introduction to contemporary international environmental politics.

Global Environmental Politics is vital reading for students of environmental politics and anyone wishing to understand the current state of the field and to make informed decisions about which policies will best safeguard our environment for the future.

Reviews

"For 30 years scholars have turned to Global Environmental Politics to understand the depth and range of environmental issues addressed by sustainable development diplomacy. This latest edition arrives at the beginning of a critical decade of delivery against agreed Sustainable Development Goals. Compound crises of climate change and biodiversity loss are upon us. The institutions and mechanisms we have use to cooperate are threatened by the benign neglect of friends, outright attack of populist enemies and the complexity of issues and actors. This 8th edition is, therefore, an essential volume for every student interested in how we can live within planetary boundaries in societies and economies that work for everyone." - Rachel Kyte CMG, Dean, The Fletcher School, Tufts University.

Praise for Prior Editions:

"The latest edition of Global Environmental Politics by Chasek and coauthors is quite simply the most comprehensive introduction to international environmental politics that currently exists. The book provides a meticulously detailed account of the emergence of the environment as an international issue. It documents the manifestation of new international institutions, regimes, and regulatory frameworks to confront ecological challenges ... This text is an essential edition to any collection." - "Choice."

"The definitive textbook in its field ... Clear, up-to-date, thorough, accurate, and consistently interesting for students and teachers alike." - Jeffrey Sachs, Columbia University.

"Broad in scope, excellent in content, and easy to read. It is an impressive summary of the fast-growing and rapidly changing world of international environmental politics.... A must for students and teachers who have international environmental policy as part of their curriculum." - "International Journal of Environment & Pollution."

"Well documented and remarkably up-to-date coverage. Its treatment of specific issues is sufficiently detailed to give the interested beginner a rounded grasp of their economic, scientific and political aspects Highly recommended as an undergraduate textbook." - "Environmental Politics."

"This is the definitive text for students seeking to understand the actors, institutions, and political dynamism of contemporary international environmental policy. The book's particular strengths are its case studies and thorough updating." - Wil Burns, Johns Hopkins University.
"A sound primer on an area of increasing importance in the teaching of international relations. It deserves to attract an extensive readership." - "Political Studies."

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
