Description

GENESIS is a dark fantasy. A beginning of all things in an epic story called GOD'S CHAIN. GOD'S CHAIN is not a religious story, it is a classic tale of light against darkness, good against evil. In his inaugural novel, Nikolaus Baker takes the reader through a hidden fantasy world that revives an enigma that has endured for centuries. There is an ancient quest that continues for a hidden knowledge that brings power, corruption, and death in a dark tale that originates in the remote Scottish village of Mauchline where tranquillity is about to change when a freak earthquake hits and precipitates a dramatic fall in temperature. In the Vatican, secrecy surrounds an untraceable security breach in the computerised nerve-centre of papal authority. This has consequences for the suspect Cardinal Giovanni Dalla Gassa. He believes in the legendary links to God, each link hidden in different locations and thought to exhibit magical and powerful properties. Powers that would tip the cosmic and spiritual balance in favour of the holder. He must have them all. The mystery thickens with the disappearance of a senior I.T. systems administrator Michaelangelo and the torment of his close friend and colleague I.T. expert Francesca DeRose. Chased for her life, she unknowingly becomes lost inside the catacombs where the cursed Abaddon Clerics lurk... the unliving. What links the hub of Catholicism with what was once the heart of covenanting Scotland? The prophecy. Heed it well. GENESIS is a dark fantasy wrapped within layers of an enigma, tied up by networks and packaged in history. Readers will enjoy this fast-moving action and fascinating twists that Baker describes with vivacity and invention. Is this really a holy mission to find God or is it a supernatural grail quest to the grave...

GOD'S CHAIN is a dark fantasy that is told in a series of books. The story is an epic dark fantasy that starts quietly 300 years ago in a remote village in the west of Scotland, as told in GENESIS, the first book in GOD'S CHAIN. The story moves to the modern-day where the layers of deceit man will go to obtain ultimate power is slowly unraveled. The pace picks up with deaths at the Vatican Bank by those people who want this godly power of cosmic proportions for themselves. DEVIL'S TEMPLE is the next link and second book in the chain and is the sequel to GENESIS. It is a dark tale of fate and legend, of feared words spoken in whispers of power and mystery. There is a hidden valley inside Amazonia known as the Vale of MalisIblis, where a mythical Temple appears every five hundred years. Professor Fabio Mancini, expedition leader believes it holds a large golden disk, a priceless artifact. Ancient tribes say that the holder of this powerful relic will have the ability to open a portal to the Gods! Horror strikes when a scientist is killed in an act of human sacrifice. The death toll continues to rise, and nothing makes sense anymore as friendships stretch to breaking point and religious tensions begin to tighten. Who or what is killing them? Inside the temple, a tapestry of death traps lay waiting. If these don't get them then horrific life-forms from another world surely will. Will anyone be found alive to rescue? DESTROYER OF WORLDS is the fourth book in this epic story. It does not end here...

About the Author
I have always wanted to write novels since I was a boy and at the same time as a mark of respect to my father who survived the second world war keep his memory alive. My father was born in Ukraine, worked for the Germans and then the Americans. His job was transporting Gi's and also providing security on trains in Germany just after the war. Dad arrived in England then settled in Scotland as a displaced person. He met my mother at the camp at Kingcleugh outside Mauchline. I love fiction of all genres and especially fantasy, horror, and sci-fi. I wanted to write something special, something that would entertain and transport readers away whenever they needed to, dropping them into a place a world apart and far away from where they were... GOD'S CHAIN was the way to do it. I first began writing in 2004! GOD'S CHAIN is NOT a religious novel. It is a series of fantasy books, GENESIS the first self-published novel paperback ISBN 9781527202528 & hardback 9781916258921. I have also written DEVILS'S TEMPLE and Stones of Symmetry. I was born in the village of Mauchline and settled in Irvine in the early 1980s. Mauchline was once a busy mining village is situated on the West Coast of Scotland, Ayrshire about thirty miles from Glasgow. I decided in 2004 after surviving Cancer to invent an epic fantasy and try and aspire to some of the great writers, like Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' or Stephen Donaldson's 'The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant', my own work written with a distinctive Scottish flavour. So many fantasies and horrors begin in remote places in other parts of the world and I believed it would be unusual to start a story right here in Mauchline. Where better in the heart of Covenanting country. So, I created GOD'S CHAIN! Over the years I found writing very therapeutic in many ways, scribbling in notepads in different places, or out jogging and being inspired by locations and situations. Places like Irvine beach, Eglington Park or George Square. Typing on my laptop while enduring many years and winter's with winds blowing through Buchannan bus station before going into work, or during my lunch hours scribbling, while sitting uncomfortably shifting multiple positions on the hard stone of the Cenotaph at George Square, and forgetting work. I wouldn't have it any other way! God's Chain, indeed has kept me inspired and entertained today as it did when I first started. I hoped to create something that would take on a life of its own and last forever. Retiring early in summer 2018, I still dream of that Publisher that would take a chance and help me to create a best seller and one day, produce that epic blockbuster I know it can be.

Excerpt: The blackness seemed to get blacker - to close in around her. Her view was diminishing rapidly, almost as if the headlamp was losing power. What would she do, without her light amidst all these bones? 'Do not look down there, Francesca! Don't look any more! Keep walking! Please God help me!' Francesca pleaded to God in utter despair, completely terrified. Lost an alone she needed all the help she could get. The darkness was heavy and the corridor was long, so long. Francesca began to slow down her pace and eventually ground to a halt. Cold so intense that crystals were thickening and crystallizing on top of her slowing body as she moved less and less. Far away, the stairs again came into her cold beam of light. It was her way out! The frost permeated into every muscle and sinew. Francesca walked and slipped towards the end of the dormitory of the dead, her mind slowing in pace along with her limbs, although she still had enough wit to check for her markings. Survival was instinctive - another mistake would prove fatal. No sign! This is the way, the right way! Francesca stumbled onto the first three or four steps, feeling weary and exhausted, her body completely frozen. Her plight was desperate and this would have been the finish for most people, but somehow Francesca was given one final boost. 'Come on girl, move it! Come on, get up! Lift yourself now! Up!' She screamed loudly, a surge of adrenaline instantly injecting throughout her body. Her heart began pumping strongly enough...and Francesca started crawling up the stairs two and three at a time. Francesca eventually reached the top. She had made it! Her teeth chattered uncontrollably and her body shook, completely frozen and covered totally with white frost. Francesca's hair was stiff and her face white - she came to rest, lying on the cold floor, resembling a thin snowman on a white field. The girl lay down atop the frosty hall and fell asleep, her body shattered from overuse. As she lay, the frost began to melt from her shoulders and hair; her cold white skin and blue complexion thawed, and a blush started to flow in her cheeks as she remained still, slouched and unconscious to the sound of someone or something screaming from below...

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
