Description

Tucked inside venerable museums, perched on rooftops, concealed behind sleek midtown facades, and waiting beyond unassuming gates you may have passed a hundred times, if you know where to look, remarkable gardens welcome visitors in almost every corner of New York City.

From the windy bluffs of The Heather Garden in Fort Tryon Park to the bold, contemporary Gantry Plaza State Park in Hunters Point, Queens, to the innovative, recently-opened High Line, this pocket-sized guide tells the stories of more than 100 gardens in New York City's boroughs. In addition to presenting the flora and fauna of New York's urban fabric, it also chronicles the history, events, and personalities behind the green spaces visited by generations of New Yorkers. More than 50 color photos showcase the gardens, with each garden entry offering complete visitor information, clearly-labeled maps of each borough or region, and lively anecdotes sprinkled throughout.

Praise for the First Edition:
"[A] beautiful and instructive guide to 100 gardens (the number du jour) in the five boroughs, as delightful as it is petite." -Verlyn Klinkenborg

"Find a green oasis near you in the new Garden Guide: New York City . . . The beautifully photographed, pocket-sized book covers more than 100 public gardens . . . these horticultural escapes . . . will make you breathe a little easier." -Time Out New York

"[This] guide can be used to find a refuge from the concrete . . . [and] help New Yorkers find the riches that are theirs in this great city." -Urban Outdoors

Reviews
"[A]n antidote to the feeling, as Joni Mitchell once expressed it, that New York has taken all the trees and put them in a tree museum. It lists the obvious places to bask in the green...but also the more obscure...and divides them by neighborhood, revealing that the city is spotted with these small respites. And what better way to spend a summer afternoon, when everyone else has decamped to some beachside, than to rediscover the city itself?" -- The New Yorker
"Every designer and gardener needs to pick up a copy of this revised guide to NYC gardens....indispensable....even if you're not going to be in NYC anytime soon, you won't want to miss reading this little book on more than 100 NYC gardens....a real treasure, with many fabulous photos." -- Jane Berger - Garden Design Online
"[E]ssential for anyone interested in New York's urban scene....Superb photographs." -- Landscape Architecture
"Their concise, elegantly written text is full of fascinating background on the places and their designers, as well as plant information." -- ElleDecor.com
"I would now love to return to New York with this book in my suitcase to explore more than the usual attractions." -- Garden Design Unlimited
"...a great little companion for the summer months in New York City..." -- A Daily Dose of Architecture blog

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
