This really is a fast paced thriller, that draws you in and keeps you on the hook all the way through. * Atticus Finch *
It is a long time since I read such a gripping novel! It is action-packed from the first page to the last. The twists, plots and sub-plots kept me enthralled the whole way through this very entertaining book. It is a real nail-biting, hide behind the cushions, type of action thriller. * Nudge Books *
First of all, this kind of book needs a good hero, and Dane fits the bill pretty well. He's strong, determined, has a (reasonable) grudge against authority. Swallow's villain, Abur Ramaas, is...the most interesting character, with intelligence and degree of cunning which raises him above the stereotypical presentation of a superstitious thug. Plotting is also vital. Again, it's well done by the author. The action moves breathlessly between Europe, Dubai, and the African coast. The set pieces are violent, varied, inventive and for the highest stakes imaginable. * Crime Fiction Lover *
Despite the globetrotting and the high tech gadgetry, this remains remarkably grounded (for an action thriller), definitely more Bourne than Bond. It's got all the hallmarks of the best thrillers - pace, action, a compelling threat and a sense of impending danger, but it retains a modernity and a sense of relevance that not all thrillers manage, and treads a path nicely between over-glamorous style-over-substance and depressingly gritty over-realism. It's another excellent book from Swallow that builds upon Nomad and suggests that the Rubicon series is going to become something quite special. * Tracks of Words *
'Exile by James Swallow is a real page-turner, a book hard to put down if you find the idea of a nuclear threat of destruction aimed at three global cities gripping. This book is certainly worth picking up and not putting down for quite a while.' * Otago Daily Times *
'Swallow delivers a pulse pounding read.' * The Big Thrill *
I thought the plot was fantastic and is aided by the setting which is richly described and vividly brought to life. There's lots of action, lots of secrets and lots of unexpected twists. I look forward to the next book in the series. * Misti Nash *
The writing is intense and well paced. The characters are strong-willed, tenacious, and resilient. And the plot is a riveting tale full of twists, turns, action, intrigue, power, violence, duplicity, manipulation, terror, and murder. Overall Exile is a timely, suspenseful, action-packed thriller. * What's Better than Books *
This is an excellent follow up and is just as fast paced as Nomad. The action in the book keeps you completely enthralled and promises many a late night as you race to its conclusion. The action sequences are excellent and I found myself holding my breath during some chapters! * Broadbean's Books *
Exile is fast paced, scarily realistic and a total thrill ride...The writing is clever and immersive, the plotting is taut and definitely frightening...Really a whole load of fun, wildly entertaining and thought provokingly authentic. Definitely recommended for thriller fans. * Liz Loves Books *
