Description

This new textbook provides a clear, fundamental grounding in cognitive psychology for beginning undergraduates. Essential Cognitive Psychology fills the void between low level introductory texts and more advanced books on the topic. This book provides the reader with highly accessible overviews of all core topics in the field. These are designed to be a strong basis for developing further interest in cognitive psychology but, at the same time, provide a self-contained account suitable for all students in psychology whose training requires degree-level competence in the subject. Beginning with a chapter on the origins of cognitive psychology, which facilitates an understanding of the topic as a whole, the book goes on to cover visual perception, attention, memory, knowledge, imagery, language, and reasoning and problem solving.
Each chapter in Essential Cognitive Psychology also contains a list of key terms highlighted in the text and a series of revision questions which address key issues in the chapter. There are also suggestions for further reading.
Written by an internationally recognised scientist and established book author, Essential Cognitive Psychology will be welcomed by teachers and students who require a thorough grounding in the topic without the specialization of more advanced textbooks.

Reviews

'Alan Parkin has written an introductory text that is both accessible and enjoyable ... (It) introduces cognitive psychology in a comprehensive way continually highlighting the relevance of the topic with everyday examples.' - Mark Brosnan, University of Greenwich

'Essential Cognitive Psychology is an excellent book which both introduces the student to the key areas in cognitive psychology and provides a good basis for further study in the area. I would strongly recommend this book to any student studying cognitive psychology at an introductory level, and as a good basis for studying particular aspects of cognitive psychology beyond Year 1.' - Tom Heffernan, University of Northumbria at Newcastle

'Essential Cognitive Psychology provides an excellent introduction to cognitive psychology ... It is written in a refreshingly lively and accessible style that will generate interest in cognition amongst its readers.' - Sheila Ford, Staffordshire University

'This clearly written text with its informal style and many illustrations, graphs, tables, and cartoons reviews all aspects of cognitive psychology from a research perspective that will attract and challenge newcomers to the field.' - Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
