Description

Well established as 'the East Coast yachtsman's bible', this 20th edition of Jan Harber's classic cruising companion marks the book's 60th anniversary. Dating back to 1956 when Jack Coote, Jan's father, produced the first black and white edition, East Coast Rivers, now extending from Lowestoft to Ramsgate, continues to cover the rivers, curlew-haunted creeks and intricate shoals and swatchways of the Thames Estuary and surrounding rivers. Comprehensive pilotage and nautical information based on years of local knowledge is complemented by port information and local maritime history, helping cruising sailors to make the most of their visit to the East Coast. The text is illustrated throughout with updated charts and photographs, including spectacular aerial shots of a number of the rivers and entrances that make up this cherished cruising ground. Not only a pilot guide, this is the memoir of a family's history; exploring, capturing and celebrating this extraordinary sailing area.

About the Author
In the 1950s Janet Harber's father, Jack Coote, wrote a series of articles on various East Coast rivers for Yachting Monthly magazine, which were soon published in book form - in the first edition of this cruising companion. Janet has taken over authorship of the book, now in its 20th edition. Nowadays Janet sails on her sister's lifting-keel Parker 325 based on the Deben and Orwell rivers.

Reviews
"Essential information is complemented by quotes, local history, family history and additional photographs to provide the reader with a greater insight into the nature of this cruising area." (Little Ship Club) "To read this guide is to go on a journey with someone who is steeped in the East Coast Rivers and knows intimately its swatchways, creeks, mud and sandbanks." (The Deben Magazine) "The pilotage is descriptive and full of local colour including extensive quotations that give a real flavour of the East Coast" (Practical Boat Owner) "Years of experience shine through in the well-thought-out use of photographs and chartlets." (Classic Boat) "Well established as 'The East Coast Yachtsman's Bible'...highly regarded guide" (Boat Mart) "...excellent aerial photographs, simple and clearly illustrated chartlets...a useful new guide to navigate distances." (Yachting Monthly) "...very much a 'cruising companion', with patches of history, anecdote, quotation and detail of shoreside facilities...well illustrated..." (Sailing Today) "For those who prefer an interesting read to a technical guide, East Coast Rivers is full of good local knowledge." (Yachting Monthly). "The old favourite for this area and has been in publication since 1956. Years of experience shine through in the well-thought out use of photographs and chartlets." (Classic Boat).

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
