About the Author
Gunter Grass, born in Danzig, Germany in 1927, is one of Germany's most celebrated writers. A man of remarkable versatility: novelist, poet, playwright, essayist and graphic artist, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1999. He died in 2015. Krishna Winston is professor and chair of the German Studies Department in the Wesleyan University and the principal English-language translator for the works of the Nobel Prize-winning German author Gunter Grass. She also translated Peter Handke's Don Juan.
