Description

This outstanding book serves as both an introductory research work and a graduate text on condensed matter physics. It is also accessible to plasma physicists and their students. The emphasis is on applications to a variety of systems and phenomena rather than theoretical derivations and techniques. Experimentalists who wish to obtain a feel for the theories involved in these systems will find careful explanations for many of the most active areas of work in physics today. The chapters are self-contained and can be read independently. In total, this text gives the beginning researcher a solid foundation on which to build his or her knowledge of this tremendously rich and growing field.
Reviews
'Based in the author's long experience in the theory of correlated systems, it ranges from simple liquids and electron correlations through magnetism, superconductivity and superfluidity to liquid crystals and polymers. This is an appealing contents list ... In terms of naming the theoretical parts the book is thorough and indeed helpful.' Profesor D. Tilley, University of Essex, Contemporary Physics, Volume 33, Number 4, July/August 1992
'a more rewarding class of book to read, and certainly to review, is the type that takes a fresh look at a range of associated topics that are not always treated together ... Ishihara's monograph, aimed at the graduate student or experienced research worker changing fields, is of this sort.' Professor D. Tilley, University of Essex, Contemporary Physics, Volume 33, Number 4

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
