Reviews
This 11-chapter book offers a framework for effective leadership based on leadership competencies and focusing on Brent Ruben's Leadership Competency Scorecard and the Leadership Competency Scorecard 2.0. Leadership specialists from Rutgers U. and other universities in the US focus on the application of the model within Rutgers U. and discuss its origin, the value of a two-dimensional approach for preparing leaders that emphasizes horizontal and vertical thinking, and key questions and considerations for leadership educators and coaches who use the framework. They provide examples of how it has been used in curricular, co-curricular, and external leadership development programs, including an undergraduate course in leadership in digital contexts, a leadership development program for interdisciplinary doctoral students, and a national fellowship program for young leaders from sub-Saharan Africa, then end with a summary of recently completed doctoral dissertations with extensions and applications to the competency framework, focusing on leadership in higher education in the areas of critical incidents, president-board competencies and competencies for new hires, and the experiences of chief business officers. -- Annotation (c)2019 * (protoview.com) *
