Jack P. Greene is Andrew W. Mellon Professor of the Humanities at the Johns Hopkins University. Among his many books on colonial America are The Quest for Power and The Reinterpretation of the American Revolution. J. R. Pole is Rhodes Professor of American History and Institutions at Oxford University. His best-known books include Political Representation in England and the Origins of the American Republic and The Pursuit of Equality in American History.
