Description

Cataloging for School Librarians, Second Edition presents the theory and practice of cataloging and classification to students and practitioners needing a clear sequential process to help them overcome cataloging anxiety. By following the instructions in this book, the new cataloger will become proficient at creating bibliographic records that meet current national standards, and make library materials accessible to students and faculty. This new edition fully integrates RDA while referencing its antecedent, AACR2. FRBR, Sears, the Dewey Decimal Classification and the implications of Web-Scale Discovery services are covered. It presents numerous examples of how to catalog books, non-print and electronic library materials using the MARC format. To reinforce learning, each chapter concludes with a revised review quiz and critical thinking questions. Cataloging for School Librarians, Second Edition includes sample full MARC records, a glossary and an index.

About the Author
Marie Kelsey, Ph.D., professor emerita, College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, Minnesota, recently completed a forty-year career in librarianship, twenty-seven of which were devoted to cataloging and technical services in academic libraries. She is also a licensed K-12 librarian and retired director of the Educational Media and Technology program at St. Scholastica. Dr. Kelsey earned her master's degree in English at Bemidji State University and her master's and Ph.D. degrees in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has authored several articles on cataloging and other aspects of school librarianship. In 2006, her book Ulysses S. Grant, A Bibliography (Praeger, 2005) was named one of the five best bibliographies of the year in history by the Reference & User Services Association (ALA) History Section's Bibliography and Indexes Committee.

Reviews
An invaluable addition to school librarians in training and any school librarian who needs additional information regarding RDA, which replaced AACR2. . . This comprehensive edition is written in an easy to understand, conversational tone, keeping the topic interesting and the text quite readable. . . This is an excellent resource for any school library required to do their own cataloging. * American Reference Books Annual *
Kelsey provides an authoritative text on cataloging for school librarians who may not need advanced knowledge for creating original cataloging records. In an easy to read, almost conversational style, the book provides brief historical and theoretical context and a lot of practical information. The text focuses on RDA, Sears, Abridged Dewey, and MARC but also provides comparisons to AACR2, the description standard RDA has replaced. The summarization sections and quizzes included at the end of each chapter reinforce materials covered and provide readers with key takeaways. -- Athena Salaba, associate professor, School of Information, Kent State University

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
