Description

This is an extraordinary and little-known story of emigration fromScotland. Caithness and Patagonia are literally a world apart, yet in the late19th and early 20th centuries a number of Caithness men and women took on thechallenge of this wild, open and windswept land. The book provides the origins and backgrounds of these CaithnessPatagonian pioneers and sets their experiences alongside the growth anddevelopment of Patagonia as one of the world's great sheep farming areas. There are stories of endurance and determination against the odds;accounts of death and disaster, but most of all there are tales of how theseCaithnessians conquered Patagonia and built successful businesses to the extentthat today their descendants are integral to many aspects of Patagonian and Argentinesociety. Caithness to Patagonia charts the backgrounds, the successes and failures of these intrepidpioneers who created a new life, far away from their homes and families. Reviews
`This is the story of some of their forebares, gleaned from the archives, by tracing descendants and, finally, a trip to Patagonia. This surprising collection of stories finally brings their family histories to an audience on this side of the Atlantic'. Family Tree -------------------- 'Their extraordinary and little-known story of this largely uncharted aspect of the Scottish diaspora is told in a new book...provides a picture of the lives and conditions they faced and mastered in the early days of sheep farming on the other side of the globe. The Press and Journal ------------------- `Tales of adventure, hardship, determination and success... ...provides the origins and backgrounds, successes and failures of those pioneers who created a new life far away from their homes and families. ...contains stories of endurance and determination against the odds; accounts of death and disaster, but most of all tales of how the Caithnessians conquered Patagonia and built successful businesses to the extent that today their descendants are integral to many aspects of Patagonian and Argentine society'. John O' Groat Journal' -------------------- '...a new book tracks the voyage of Caithness families who transformed the fortunes of the dry and cold plateau spanning over 260,000 miles'. The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
