Description
A 2018 poll, conducted by the American Psychiatric Association, revealed that nearly 40% of Americans feel more anxious than last year. Anxiety is definitely on the rise in the US. Time magazine reports that almost 40 million Americans suffer from the disorder - and that's just those that are diagnosed, as anxiety disorders tend to be underreported (for example, the many Americans who have high-functioning anxiety). This book is addressing a strong need in the western world, one that is a hallmark of our times. Time magazine has reported that yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices has increased in the workplace in the last couple of years, and a similar CNN report shows that kids and adults are increasingly turning to these practices for mental health and stress management. These benefits of yoga and meditation have been researched and validated for years. However, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health recognizes that yoga is helpful for some symptoms of anxiety and depression in stressful life situations, but has not been shown to help in managing anxiety disorders. Some missing pieces need to be added to the puzzle that Awakening from Anxiety can provide. Awakening from Anxiety appeals to the burgeoning self-help industry as well as the spiritual growth movement. With more Americans now saying that they're spiritual rather than religious, and seeking out non-denominational, non-religious paths to develop spirituality, Awakening from Anxiety is poised to appeal to this growing American trend towards "spiritual but not religious." Awakening from Anxiety is written especially for women, ages 35-60: the main market for personal and spiritual growth books. Most of the examples in the book are of women dealing with and overcoming common fears and worries. Awakening from Anxiety speaks right to their pain, and how to release it. As a licensed psychotherapist and yoga teacher with more than 25 years in both fields, Rev. Connie lends credibility to transforming anxiety as well as spiritual practice that many authors and personal coaches may not have. There are many magazines and online communities focused on personal and spiritual growth that attract thousands of visitors and members, such as: https://theshiftnetwork.com, http://www.oprah.com/app/super-soul-sunday.html, https://www.yogajournal.com, and https://spiritualityhealth.com.
