Description

A boy exiles himself from his family through a shocking act of violence. Years later, having built a new life he returns to try to understand his past. He attempts to reconcile with his family but the closer he gets to them, the more he sets the course for disaster.

Starting at the point of the final tragedy, we discover through four narrators the fabric of lies on which all their live were built, and how deep wounds can go.

About the Author
After time at medical college, Martin worked as a labourer, showman, pancake chef, fire technician, and design engineer for London Underground. From years living in South London, his writing explores a world where wealth and poverty exist side by side, and paradise can be a place to stay, a change of identity or a wall of lager cans, and the biggest mistake a person can make is to start believing their own myths.

Reviews

I really loved this book and found that although it wasn't a fast-paced story, the characters really came alive and I felt I knew all of them. It begins and ends with a tragedy that involves all four narrators and ties them all together. I liked the writer's style and he brought all the characters and their stories to life. Atmospheric and believable.

* Nudge Book Magazine *

The writing has the tension and engagement of a thriller but retains sufficient originality to avoid the cliches and predictability more typical of the genre. The denouement answers the questions posed throughout the narrative but leaves the reader with plenty to consider. A disturbing depiction of the damage caused by familial demands and expectation. Discomforting yet compelling, this is a piquant and thought-provoking read.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
