Description
Joinery is a fundamental element of woodworking, and mastering the basic joints is an essential part of becoming a skilled woodworker. But not all wood joints are created equal, so knowing how and when to use them is just as important. This book provides an overview of how to create the most common joinery used in woodworking.
Each joint is accompanied by detailed step-by-step instructions and illustrated with full-colour photographs. Methods are shown for creating joints using both hand tools and power tools, and alternative techniques are given where appropriate, allowing the reader to experiment and decide on their preferred process. There is information on the basic tools needed to construct each joint and how to choose the right joint for every job.
Readers will also learn about factors that contribute to a strong wood joint, such as grain, to ensure they achieve success every time. An indispensable joinery reference book, Wood Joints by Machine & by Hand provides the perfect introduction for novices and an ideal companion for more accomplished woodworkers looking to brush up on their skills.
Includes: Butt Joint, Miter Joint, Dowel Joint, Mortise and Tenon Joint, Box Joint and Through Dovetail Joint.

Reviews
Experienced woodworker Randall A Maxey has pooled his years of knowledge into this comprehensive joinery reference book. Even if you're a hand tool devotee, there are times when a power tool is the more pragmatic choice, and those who generally prefer power tools can still benefit from brushing up on their hand tool skills. Both types of woodworkers will learn useful techniques in this book, where the making of each joint is demonstrated first using hand tools and then with power tools. Twenty of the most commonly used joints are covered in detail with clearly written step-by-step instructions, accompanying photos and illustrations, and information what type of woodworking projects they are suitable for. The joints get progressively more difficult, making this a kind of workshop in a book. This excellent publication is one that you are sure to refer to time and time again in your workshop!
