Reviews

'This insightful book fills a big hole in the leadership literature, providing leaders with practical ideas for developing authenticity. We know by now that emotional intelligence and - especially - empathy are important; we know less about how to actually do these things and develop them further. Ruth Smith's book fills that void. It is particularly important for aspiring leaders. In the early years, we are promoted because we are competent, and do what is expected. Eventually, however, to move ahead we have to do something "special," certainly if we are to be granted the special status of "leader" in the eyes of those around us, something no title can entirely provide. Ruth's book gives us insights into the skills necessary to do that something "special."'

Professor Charles Galunic, Professor of Organisational Behaviour and AVIVA Chaired Professor of Leadership and Responsibility at INSEAD

'This is a book that current and future leaders will want to read. Ruth combines extensive coaching experience with strong academic and scientific support to formulate practical insights on how to enable positive and impactful change in organizations everywhere. Her "DARE" model is an invitation for authentic leaders to become empathic influencers and to develop a superior strategic and sustainable advantage. In an increasingly fast-changing world this is not only invaluable, but necessary.'

Virginie Maisonneuve, Chief Investment Officer, Eastspring Investments

'A simple yet extremely powerful and practical framework from which to develop or hone empathic leadership regardless of role, experience or competence. A really impactful read, grounded with real life, relatable insights amassed through Ruth's extensive coaching experience and supported by detailed research to enable further discovery of the topics as determined by the reader's curiosity.'

Katie Danby, Chief Operating Officer, HSBC UK Bank PLC

'Books on leadership are plentiful: great books on the topic are few and far between. Ruth's narrative oozes the emotional intelligence that is central to her rallying call, emphasising the importance of empathetic listening, unconscious bias and authentic leadership with an engaging, accessible warmth.'

Colin Storrar, Group Chief Financial Officer, Lowell Group

'If you've picked this book up, you're probably technically at the top of your game. You're possibly also wondering why you don't get the recognition you deserve, why you're surrounded by lesser mortals who don't "get what you're saying" and maybe frustrated that you haven't nailed your ultimate career, business or life goal. Where Authentic Leaders DARE is the missing link, the key that you have been so avidly searching for to give you the breakthrough that you so desperately want. I promise that when you've finished reading this book, you'll kick yourself that it was actually all so simple and for making such hard work of your life thus far.'

Carolyn Pearson, CEO, Maiden Voyage

'The right balance of real life experience, academic rigour and good storytelling makes this a "must-read" for anyone who is serious about becoming an authentic leader. The focus on increased self-awareness, empathy and relationship development is very powerful and Dr Ruth Smith's experience of coaching real people through real leadership challenges shines through.'

Nick Corlett, CEO, BA Components

'For those of us who have tried to be leaders throughout our life this book is a true revelation in terms of getting to the heart of the subject in a very practical manner. Dr Smith's huge experience in leadership is reflected throughout with the way forward to creating powerful relationships and inspirational leadership in a meaningful way. Positive, profound and driven, this book is essential reading for those of us who aspire to be better leaders.'

David A Kerfoot, MBE, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, North Yorkshire; Chair, York, North Yorkshire & East Riding LEP

'I highly recommend this book. The real-life examples, backed by research and easy to understand models will resonate with many analytical professionals and help them to understand where they can improve; to accelerate their careers and transform how they lead to engage, motivate and inspire the people around them.'

Talita Ferreira, CEO, Authentic Change Solutions Ltd.; Non-Exec Director, Ford Credit

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
