A life-long pop trivia collector, he was a successful contestant in two music quiz series in the 1970s - Radio 1's Quiz Kid and Yorkshire Television's Pop Quest - and later compiled all the questions for special editions of the Channel 5 quiz show 100% on the subjects of Queen, Abba and Elvis Presley.
