Reviews
"Today's supposedly flat world actually splits into many nation states with conflicting interests and powers. Their potential gains from cooperation on political and economic issues often go unrealized. This book combines game-theoretic analysis and imaginatively paired comparisons of numerous cases to help us understand the reasons for success or failure in international collective action, and the design of institutions to achieve better outcomes. The value of the lessons it teaches students and policy practitioners alike is huge." -- Avinash K. Dixit, John J. F. Sherrerd '52 University Professor of Economics, Emeritus, Princeton University "Peinhardt and Sandler's Transnational Cooperation investigates collective action at the global, regional, and transnational level. Confronting rigorous theory with convincing evidence on a wide range of current topics, this monograph bridges disciplines with masterly skill. It will be essential reading for all students in political economy at once." -- Axel Dreher, Professor of International and Development Politics, Heidelberg University "This sophisticated, well-written book provides an excellent introduction to transnational cooperation. The case studies not only illuminate how game theory and the logic of collective action help explain the limits and possibilities of cooperation in specific issue areas but provide a clear and succinct overview of each of the global issues being addressed. This book is strongly recommended for all academic libraries and for college courses on global collective action." -- M. Amstutz, Wheaton College, lChoice
