Description

Although sexual psychophysiology has made great strides over the past few decades, the progress made has not been accompanied by much effort to integrate research findings or to stimulate methodological and theoretical discussions among researchers. Yet this new research area has the potential to make substantial contributions to understanding a wide range of phenomena, including the spread of HIV/STIs, sexual "addiction" or compulsivity, the use (or nonuse) of birth-control methods, sexual infidelity, and aggressive sexual behaviors. Psychophysiological methods can assist in the exploration of the underlying psychological, physiological, and affective processes, and, perhaps more importantly, how they interact. In this volume, editor Erick Janssen brings together wide-ranging essays written by an authoritative group of researchers, representing the cutting edge of sexual psychophysiology.

Reviews

. . .This cutting-edge material makes significant advances over the work of the giants in the field-Alfred Kinsey, Helen Singer Kaplan, and Masters and Johnson. Besides bringing researchers up to date on others' work and generating ideas for further research, Janssen's goal with this book is to cast light on standardizing measurement and analytic procedures in this new field of research. . . . Recommended.

. . . includes the papers presented at the [sexual psychophysiology] conference, but also contains essays written by discussants that review and criticize the papers presented in each section. In addition, the book provides a verbatim recount of the open discussions of the researchers after each paper was verbally presented. Thanks to this format, readers feel like they are sitting next to Bancroft, Heiman, Geer, Everaerd and the others, and are therefore able to enjoy the stimulating exchanges and discussions that made the meeting particularly successful.May 23, 2009 (online)

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
