Description

The upland areas of the North of England are a joy to walk. Using a combination of recognised long distance paths the author traces a route from Preston to Carlisle linking the two rail stations and along the way passing through the most scenic and inspiring sections of these walks. Here you can walk through the beauty of the Ribble Valley, through the rugged dales of Yorkshire to the thundering waterfalls of Teesdale and the sheer awe of encountering High Cup before then experiencing the solitary majesty of Cross Fell and the High Pennines. In it's final stages the walk follows the sylvan splendour of the Tyne Valley before tramping in the footsteps of the Roman Legionnaires along Hadrian's Wall towards Carlisle. This is a walk that quite simply contains the best of English walking.

About the Author
Steve Garrill Steve is a teacher at Saint Bede's Catholic High School in Lytham St Annes. He is also a Duke of Edinburgh assessor and every year organises a team to take the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge to raise money for charity. Steve took up long distance walking in his early 40's and since then has completed most of the long distance walks in the north of England and Scotland. With his experience he has learnt the value of careful preparation, advanced planning and having the right equipment. He trained as a history teacher and is interested in the history of every walk he undertakes. This walk has a strong link with Roman history, but there are interesting links with many other periods of history throughout the walk. Steve has given brief outlines of historical connections and added reliable website addresses where further information can be obtained. Steve is keen to promote walking for all of its many benefits, but equally keen that people are not put off when their early experiences are ruined by inadequate preparation, poor equipment or misleading directions. Every section of this walk has been walked twice, three or even four times to check the accuracy of the directions given.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
