Description
A fresh and exciting mapmaking adventure. Sal, Joe, Francie and Humphrey misplace their famous mapmaker mother as they begin the Great Race to map a rail route through an uncharted wilderness. Their father didn't return from his last expedition and now their money is gone. This race is their last chance.
They have twenty-eight days to find and map the best route. There'll be bears, bees, bats, river crossings, cliff falls, impossible weather-but worst of all, they're racing five teams of adults who do not play by the rules.
" The Mapmakers' Race is an original adventure with buckets of character, written with an assured hand-and with wonderful maps which are central to the story." Julia Marshall, Publisher

Reviews
"A thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable adventure full of setbacks and dangers and family squabbling, but also fun and laughter and the thrill of exploration and storytelling around campfires under the open stars." -- Children's Books Ireland
"one of the most poised, stylish children's books I've read in a long time ... just an utter delight" Kate De Goldi, "I love this" Kim Hill. -- Kate De Goldi and Kim Hill, Radio New Zealand
"The Mapmakers' Race already feels like a timeless adventure. Its roaring spirit and dashes of fantasy are sure to inspire many children to take on their own intrepid journeys, but for now they'll be more than happy to live vicariously through the Santanders, each of whom have their own strengths, and whose bond is heartwarming."
