Description

This brand new Little Book focuses on using everyday objects that appeal to young children in the EYFS, with a clear emphasis on the use of non-standard measures as well as standard measures in meaningful contents. Explore opportunities such as estimating how many 'giant's strides' it is from the door to the climbing frame, or how many handprints tall each child is, as well as using trundle wheels, metre rules, sand timers, stop watches, balances and scales. The activities use simple to obtain and inexpensive materials, so are suitable for practitioners working on a tight budget (which many of them are)!

The Little Book of Measures offers a range of hands-on, fun learning experiences, linked to the Characteristics of Effective Learning: Playing and Exploring; Active Learning and Creating and Thinking Critically. The book is aimed at practitioners across settings and schools - in general, for non-maths specialists, but it is also helpful for maths co-ordinators in schools who are not early years specialists.

About the Author
Carole is an Early Years specialist and a Foundation Associate of Early Education, the UK's leading educational charity for parents, carers and early years practitioners. At present she is running training courses for Early Education both in London and throughout the country. Carole has been a primary teacher, adviser and lecturer and she believes that learning maths should be exciting for all children, parents, teachers and practitioners. In the last few years Carole has written for a range of publishers including the BBC Worldwide, BEAM, Reed Publishing and Nursery World. She had a leading role in the National Numeracy Strategy and was until recently responsible for developing the Early Years materials for BEAM and Nelson Thornes. Judith is currently an independent early years consultant with '4 children' and has contributed significantly to the Foundation Years website (the DfE conduit with the Early Years Workforce). She has a long and diverse career in early years education. This has included working in the non-maintained sector as well as a teacher, maths coordinator and early years team leader. Following a long career in local authority advisory roles, Judith took on a leadership role in national programmes including Every Child a Talker. Judith is a prolific writer and has written numerous articles in a wide range of early years magazines. Judith has recently developed maths materials for LEGO which are used internationally as a marketing tool.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
