Description

Thanks to these generous donors for making the publication of this book possible: Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Best.

A definitive historical-critical commentary on the Passover seder.

The Passover haggadah enjoys an unrivaled place in Jewish culture, both religious and secular. Of all the classic Jewish books, the haggadah is the one most "alive" today. Jews continue to rewrite, revise, and add to its text, recasting it so that it remains relevant to their lives. Joseph Tabory, one of the world's leading authorities on the history of the haggadah, traces the development of the seder and the haggadah through the ages. The book features an extended introduction by Tabory, the classic Hebrew haggadah text side by side with its English translation, and Tabory's clear and insightful critical-historical commentary.

About the Author
Joseph Tabory is a professor of Talmud at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. He is also an ordained orthodox rabbi. Tabory was born in the United States and emigrated to Israel in 1955, where he pursued academic studies in Bar Ilan University, receiving his Ph.D. in 1978. Tabory has written numerous articles on the history of Jewish prayer, the history of Jewish holidays, and on midrashic literature. He has also written several books, including major volumes on the history of Jewish festivals and the history of the Passover seder.

"This is a significant and valuable work that, in examining the Haggadah from an historical perspective, offers insight into Jewish history as well." -Chicago Jewish Star

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
