Description

A young man's quest for beauty through literature, love, drugs and dreams becomes a mystical, lyrical classic from the father of supernatural horror. There is a foreword by Catherine Fisher one of whose acclaimed "Oracle" trilogy was shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize and is an international bestseller translated into over 20 languages. Originally published in 1907, it is widely regarded as Machen's finest lyrical work.

About the Author
Born and brought up in Monmouthshire, Machen's tales of bohemian 'fin-de-sie cle' London were coloured by the dark and mysterious landscapes of his childhood. A contemporary of Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde and William Butler Yeats - all of whom admired his work tremendously, Machen's legacy is central to gothic fiction in the twentieth century. His great literary significance was recognized by H. P. Lovecraft who named Machen as one of the four 'modern masters' of supernatural horror.

Reviews
'Literature is a game played with words - words are the stock elements - but we should not forget that in the case of masters, and Machen is one of them, this game of algebra or chess reflects an emotion.' Jorge Luis Borges

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
